Afghan Darbar, Lajpat Nagar

After tired of sifting through books all morning, this weekend we satisfied the meat cravings with some Afghan dishes.

We ordered the standard Mantu (Afghan momos in a yoghurt and lentil sauce) and Mutton Choppan kababs and explored new dishes like Afghan Fried Chicken and Meatball Kofta Qorma.

While the food was not bad, I prefer the Kabul Delhi restaurant right next door for both food and service!!


Came across a used book shop that had this book that was gifted to a Renee in 1968 and inside it was a handwritten recipe for Uncooked Chocolate Cake :)

The mutton #kebabs in this mezze platter were mind blowing. These so soft that they were breaking on touch. They were juicy and mildly spiced with condiments. Kebabs are best when the taste of the meat comes through and not just the spices it is soaked in.

Elma’s Brasserie, Meherchend Market

The first lunch in the new year was at Elma’s in Meherchend Market. We went there to have their special New Year’s Lunch menu, but ended up ordering a la carte, which turned out even better. The highlight of the meal was Salmon fillet en croute (puff pastry).

The salmon was fatty (read tasty) and the puff pastry crust was perfectly crisp. The cranberry sauce and hollandaise sauce complemented the Salmon flavour well!

If you are fish person, then don’t miss this at Elma’s.

Merry Christmas folks!!


This deceptively simple looking dish is traditional Sri Lankan food - Kiribath (Coconut milk Rice) and Katta Sambal (dry tuna pounded with shallots, red chilli and lemon juice). If you are open to coconut milk and dry fish, then this is a must try. So yummy 😋!! Thanks to a cousin who is visiting us, we are getting to enjoy these!!

The mystery ice cream of which no one could identify the flavour. The popular choices were Jackfruit, Custard Apple and Pineapple.

These wonderful Christmas cakes were packed last night at Ganesh Bakery in Tuticorin and were in Delhi, some 3000kms away, this evening. Whatay logistics. Take a bow @rgokul.

These cakes used to define the festivities as a child and waft of their goodness throws opens the flood gates of memories!!
