In a supermarket here, found these cute little iPhone themed erasers. We used to call them “rubber”, before those Americans spoilt it for us.

Before I savour Haleem and Biryani, this is to remind that Hyderabad is also a city of small eats - Mirchi Bajji and Punugulu.

Shimtur, Delhi

Over the weekend tried out a tiny Korean joint - Shimtur, in Paharganj. Though the entrance and the climb up are a bit shady, the food was really good.

We had seaweed soup, seafood pancake, spicy chicken and rice. The main course came up with additional condiments like Kimchi, Egg roll etc. We washed all this down with Iced Tea.

Found this First World War memorial arch in the market of Vellore.

The small inscription in the middle reads— From this village 277 went to the Great War 1914 - 1919. Of these 14 gave up their lives

Flavored Coconut Water it seems. Why take a healthy and naturally sweetened coconut water and add mango/strawberry/orange/pineapple flavored sugar syrup is beyond me!!

Dear Delhi, why would you encourage this abomination?

Submission.

Lotan Chole Kulche, Delhi

If I were to recommend one vegetarian dish in Old Delhi, it will be Lotan’s Chole Kulche.

I had read about Lotan’s spicy Chole Kulche a while ago, but did not pay much attention as I felt, being married into an Andhra family, my spice levels were way above these Naarth fellows. Boy, was I wrong. That spicy chilli oil takes that dish to another level !!

Over the weekend we had a weaver from the Bangladesh border showing his wares in our place. Beautiful stuff. In case you are interested, drop me a line. He is Delhi for another week.

Starting to new collection #ForgottenIdols.

For a while I’ve been noticing a lot of idols strewn around on the roadside, and cannot but feel a tinge of sadness for those once well kept pieces.

Here is a Buddha, under a tree, basking in the afternoon sun, bathed in dust and with a broken right arm.

Surajkund Mela

Came across this Japanese artist making paper in Surajkund Mela yesterday. The tree fibres are suspended in water, which he sieves through the contraption he has repeatedly. After making a thin transparent layer, it is peeled off from the reverse side and dried to make a sheet of paper.

A paper mache Gecko by the Japanese artist at Surajkund Mela.

The beautiful Chattisgarh gate at Surajkund grounds. If you zoom in, you will find the artist’s name and phone number above the statue’s head 😊

Beautiful paper art by an artis. In the lower half you can see how fine a cut he is doing. The scissors hardly move a few millimetres. Amazing dexterity and control!

Cute little Kolapuri chappals for babies that was at display.

A beautiful ceiling at one of the gates.
